iPhone 6 Plus pushes back launch of bigger iPad, report says

The iPhone 6 Plus, boasting a 5.5-inch screen, is pushing back any chance for Apple to launch a larger-screen iPad this year, according to a new report.
Apple has plans to build a larger iPad featuring a 12.9-inch screen, but won't get going on that until early next year so its suppliers can focus on increasing output on the iPhone 6 Plus, the Wall Street Journal is reporting, citing people who claim to have knowledge of the company's supply chain efforts. Those sources told the Journal that Apple is facing major demand for the iPhone 6 Plus and that output so far has proven "unsatisfactory" on the larger device.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The new iPhone models debuted in September. The iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7-inch screen, while the iPhone 6 Plus features a 5.5-inch display. It's possible in some cases to find an iPhone 6 Plus on store shelves, but it's exceedingly more difficult than getting the smaller phone. As of this writing, Apple's online store lists the iPhone 6 Plus lead time as three to four weeks. The iPhone 6 will ship in as little as a week.
Rumors have been swirling for months that Apple is planning to boost the size of its iPads. The iPad Mini has a 7.9-inch screen size, which likely won't change, but the iPad Air features the same 9.7-inch screen Apple has offered since the original iPad's inception in 2010. As an increasing number of devices from other tablet makers hit store shelves featuring larger screens, the onus is on Apple to respond with a larger tablet of its own. The 12.9-inch model could be just that.
According to the Journal's sources, the larger iPad was set to go into mass production in early December. The stronger demand and lower-than-expected production on the iPhone 6 Plus, however, has pushed that timetable back at least a couple of months, though the sources didn't say exactly when mass production might begin.
Apple is planning to hold a press event next week, likely announcing new iPads. It's unclear whether the company is going to announce the larger iPad at that event.

The ever-flamboyant John Legere says that if you could see the face of the man trying to bend an iPhone 6 Plus, it would probably be purple.

Sometimes, you need to curse to make your point.
In the case of T-Mobile CEO John Legere, a curseless statement is rarer than a polar bear in Silicon Valley.
It's heartening, then, that he dedicated the full force of his lexicon to the phenomenon known as Bendgate. In this, an iPhone 6 Plus was said to be easily bent in tight pockets. Nine people, according to Apple, complained.
Speaking at the GeekWire Summit, Legere offered (at around the 20-minute mark in the video below) this considered view, shortly after sitting on his iPhone 6 Plus: "That is such horses***. I mean, come on, what the f*** did you need to see?"
Warming to his theme and mock-bending his phone, he said: "The video of the guy that's doing this -- and if you could have seen his face, he probably would have been purple."
"The thing moves a little bit? Are you s***ting me? I mean, when was the last time you took any other...this is an amazing supercomputer in your hand. What the f*** are you putting it in your pants and sitting on it for?"
Yes, but nine people complained.
"Those nine people who sat on their phones...first of all, they need jeans that fit them a little better."
His conclusion: "This thing doesn't f***ing bend."
So there you have it. Legere revealed that Bendgate isn't slowing down demand, even though there is a "major supply issue."
As the interview progressed, Legere explained that Apple's exacting standards had made T-Mobile a better company.
He also offered that the Amazon Fire phone sold "about 10 units." Well, yes, but nine people didn't complain that it bent in their pocket.

You've probably been doing extra squat thrusts in the gym, just to put your phone to the test.
Does a more muscular bottom mean that your phone will bend more quickly under pressure when it's in your back pocket?
Samsung would like you to know that, however maximus is your gluteus, its new Note 4 will never become unglued.
In a new video, released to capitalize on -- no, celebrate -- the so-called Bendgate that allegedly afflicted the iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung sniffs that some smartphones may bend in back pockets. (Now which phone could it mean?)
But the Galaxy Note 4 is, the video says, strong.
What follows is a test that doesn't seem too dissimilar to the one performed last week by Consumer Reports. In that version, the Note came out very well, as it does in this one.
Here, though, Samsung performs a further test. It places a substantial (but fake) bottom on the phone and prays that it will withstand the stress.
The bottom, which is supposed to carry the force of someone weighing 100 kilograms (220 pounds), goes up and down upon it like a jockey nearing the finish. The Note is entirely unmoved.
Why is this? According to Samsung, its metal frame and magnesium bracket work together to create glorious reinforcement.
I am firm in the belief that a phone has no place near a flabby rear (or any other kind.) The bottom is far too important a point of pulchritude to be besmirched by a jutting oblong.
However, if you don't care about looks, Samsung insists that its phone is a must for you.

You see, last month Google unveiled an odd, unexpected, and thoroughly entertaining proof-of-concept: Google Cardboard, a homemade virtual-reality headset which pairs with your smartphone for a pretty sweet VR experience.
Of course, this being a Google product, it's exclusively for Android devices, right? Wrong! There are at least five iOS apps that work with Cardboard, all of them proof-positive that app developers may want to consider supporting the platform.
Want to see for yourself? For starters, you'll need the "hardware." Google's plans for a DIY Cardboard are readily available online, but you can also buy a readymade kit for as little as $20. For purposes of testing, I used one of Unofficial's Cardboard kits with my iPhone 5S. It worked fine, but I suspect a smaller iPhone (like the 4 or 4S) might actually prove a bit too small. If you're building a kit yourself, you can customize the dimensions to better fit a smaller screen.
From there, it's just a matter of finding compatible apps. So far, I've found five:

Matt Elliott/CNET My honey-do list just just got easier. Well, it's not any shorter, but it is easier to read, thanks to Alter, a 99-cent iPhone app. Alter converts blocks of text intro tidy, actionable to-do lists.
After launching Alter for the first time, the app steps you through a brief tutorial, showing you how to paste text into the app and how to manage the resulting list. Alter holds only one list at a time; there is no way to save multiple lists, but the app is so basic that I doubt you will use it for anything other than the occasional ad hoc list.
To create a list using Alter, copy some text from an email, a text message, a browser, or another source and then open Alter. You'll be greeted with blank canvas, instructing you to "Paste text here."

Aktualisierte Peel-remote-app für das iPhone steuert Teller oder DirecTV-Boxen über Wi-Fi
PeelDie Peel-app "remote" geht schon stark Android, wo es vorinstallierte HTC, Samsung und ZTE Tablets und Handys geht, mit der eingebauten Infrarot-Blaster auf diese Modelle als ein Notbehelf Touchscreen-Klicker zu agieren. Aber die app ist seit MIA auf dem iPhone die Außenborder Schale Obst Blaster vor ein paar Jahren verblasst.
Das ändert sich heute jedoch die freie Peel-app für iOS--mit eine praktische Abhilfe für das iPhone-Mangel eine integrierte IR-Blaster gibt. Die app wird die neuere DirecTV und Teller-Netz-Satelliten-TV-Boxen und DVRs stattdessen direkt über Wi-Fi-Kontrolle.
Während die Wi-Fi-Abhilfe ohne Zweifel ein guter Trick ist, hinzuweisen, dass es Peels Steuerung auf der Satelliten-Box beschränkt wird. Erwarte nicht, dass das iOS Peel remote steuern alle weiteren Geräte, wie TV oder sound-System, sodass es wahrscheinlich verwendet werden kann, um z.B. Lautstärke.
