A new app called BrainWave claims to be the first to allow you to control your Spotify and Pandora music with hand gestures. You've always wanted that, right?

That's the thing with music. It makes you want to wave your arms around in one way or another. It brings you out of yourself and into that blissful place where you're actually someone important, loved by many.
This is something, perhaps inadvertently, that the makers of BrainWave have waved their technical wand over. For this app claims to be the very first that lets you control the music on your phone with a mere wave of the hand.
Yes, you could be at your treadmill desk and suddenly, with a wave, you can eliminate Kanye West in favor of Katy Perry.
The glory of this invention is that you don't even have to have the screen on in order to wave the perfect musical environment into your soul.
It works with Pandora, Spotify, iHeart, GooglePlayMusic and even Beats (as long as that still exists).
I confess I've been a touch skeptical about gesture apps. My principle fear is that users look like tai chi practitioners who have ingested an unwise cocktail of chemicals.
So I asked BrainWave's maker, OTG Platforms, whether one might be permitted to invent one's own gestures.
CEO Ryan Fink told me in an email, "If you can wave to someone you can use BrainWave...no need to make your own gestures up. Open hand = play/pause and a wave of the hand = back/next song. It's so simple a priest, rabbi or pastor can do it...Possibly all at the same time."
That's the thing about techies. They preach freedom. But they insist on conformity.

The device, which will reach Europe first, features a 4.5-inch display, 4GB or 8GB of built-in storage, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

LG is releasing another entrant in its line of 4G LTE smartphones.
The LG F60 will go on sale starting this week in Europe, the company announced on Wednesday. Availability in Asia and the Americas will follow, though pricing and carrier availability will not be revealed until the actual launch.
The LG F60 is a midrange smartphone, featuring a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor and a 4.5-inch display. The device offers 4GB or 8GB of onboard storage; LG did not mention whether the phone includes expandable memory. The rear-facing camera comes in at 5 megapixels, and the front-facing camera at 1.3 megapixels.
LG captured 4.9 percent worldwide share in the second quarter, putting the company in fifth place worldwide behind Samsung, Apple, Huawei, and Lenovo. While that might not be the ideal place for LG, it is followed by a collective "others" -- a space in which no company wants to get lumped in.
LG is making a fuss about the F60's 4G LTE compatibility, saying that the device expands its "footprint" in that arena. The device is running Android 4.4.2 KitKat and comes in black or white versions. Actual availability of those colors will vary by market.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

If you thought the Samsung Galaxy Round was peculiar, get ready for another whole level of quirk. According to a Korean supplier of Samsung parts, the company has begun testing three-sided displays for potential application on mobile devices.
The technology has been rumored for quite some time, but it finally seems to have gained some steam, with sources claiming that such a device could go into production by the end of this year.
A three-sided display phone just might be what Kim Hyeon Jun, executive manager at Samsung's Wireless Business Division, had been foreshadowing during Samsung's second-quarter earnings conference call.
"While I cannot mention specifics, we are planning on unveiling an innovative large-screen flagship model, an attractive phone that takes advantage of cutting-edge materials," he said.
Large-scale production, however, may be further down the line. The three-sided screen will utilize a plastic substrate that is reportedly limited in quantity and difficult to work with. If released by the end of this year, it will most likely be limited to Korean audiences.
